NASA Climate Kids

Coral Bleaching Simulation

This interactive simulation shows how water temperature, tropical storms, and pollution impact coral reefs. NASA Climate Kids is also a great way to get information on climate issues! Explore sections like "Big Questions" to learn about ocean acidification or how scientists collect sea level data. To access this simulation and learn about factors affecting coral reefs, click the button below!

NeMO-Net

Citizen science

NASA researchers created an iOS software called "NeMO-Net". NeMO-Net allows citizens to classify coral reefs worldwide using 3-D imaging data. Playing this "game" creates a global assessment of coral reef health. As more players classify corals, the smarter the NASA supercomputer becomes. The goal is to have the NASA supercomputer recognize coral classifications independently. You can download NeMO-Net on the app store, and can learn more by clicking the button below!

WhyReef

Reef Simulator

The WhyReef simulator focuses on how coral reef ecosystems are impacted by various factors. You can make hypotheses about how each species will react to different situations. WhyReef lets you adjust the simulator to observe changes such as bleaching events, overfishing, nutrient runoff, tourism impacts, and more. To learn about coral ecosystems, click the button below!
